Happy Hump Day y’all!! Today on the blog I wanted to talk about fears and how I have, personally, started to conquer some of my fears this year! Conquering fears are something I have struggled with my whole life.
Growing up, Iย was pretty scared of putting myself out there. I felt likeย anytime I tried to during middle and high school, I was met with contempt or annoyance. Not only was I scared of putting myself out there in a social way, but I also started to be scared to try new things.
I wasn’t always afraidย of heights. The first time I really remember being afraid of heights was in 8th grade. I went to my summer church camp and Iย justย couldn’t walk across the bridge that connected both sides of the camp. You can look down and see everything below you as you walk across the bridge. I had done this what felt like a billion times before the previous summers. For some reasonย this time was different. I looked down and almost threw up. I didn’t walk calmly across that bridge ever since then.
When I met my fiance, Julian, 5 years ago I would have told you that he wouldn’t have much of an impact in my life. Julian helped me get over my fears about food. I didn’t like onions, peppers, jalapenos, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Not only did I not like them, but I was legit scared to eat them. This past year, I started eating all of these things and actually enjoying them.
Julian helped me see how beautiful I am and can be when I just believeย in myself. I would have never done a pageant 5 years ago or before that. The simple act of participating in a pageant says a lot about conquering your fears. Women and girls who compete in pageants are some of the bravest people I have ever met. It’s scary and intimidating but now look at me. Haha Pageants have become a huge part of my life.
Julian also helped me start getting over my fear of heights. Two years ago, we went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. He MADE me. He literally grabbed me by the arm and dragged me on (what I think) the scariest ride at the park: The Scream. The Scream is 205 feet up and the ride takes you all the way to the top to where you can see the whole park. When the ride started and we shot up…we were left up there for what felt like an eternity. My legs were shaking but super stiff. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. Then we were dropped down. And I have never been happier to be falling down 205 feet in my life. It was so exciting and I was so proud that I actually did it.
I was still scared of heights and my stomach still clenchesย when I look down on anything higher than 10 feet.
Then I read this quote by Mark Twain.
“Do the thing you fear most and the death of fear is certain.”
I have skydiving on my bucket list. And, right now, I can’t see myself conquers my fears to jump out of a plane. Then I discovered iFly Austin and I thought it would be a GREAT opportunity to keep doing what I fear and hopefully get over it! iFLY is the perfect adrenaline rush for those of use who arenโt keen on jumping out of a plane…yet (at least for me haha).

I am proud to say that I DID IT. Last night, I went to iFly Austin and did my first flight experience. Not going to lie, I felt like my heart was going to stop the first time in the flight chamber. But, our instructor was awesome and I wanted to cry when I realized that I was actually FLYING.
iFly is the greatest first step I have ever taken to get to the point where I can scratch skydiving off my B-List. I am glad I did it and can’t wait to do it again.
โAvoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold.โ โHelen Keller
