HOLD UP! My Favorite Thanksgiving Movies to Watch in November

Life, Love, Music

WAIT ONE MINUUUUUTE!

Let’s not forget the turkey!

For the past 10 years, the official start of the holiday season has been my birthday. Every year on November 8 begins the season known as “Anali’s Holiday Season” which includes my birthday, my dad’s birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and now my puppy’s birthday.

But, every year it seems like people are always getting ahead of themselves. I remember walking into Hobby Lobby back in August and seeing Christmas decorations already on sale. IN AUGUST.

It is probably one of my biggest pet peeves that people seem to skip over Thanksgiving and head straight into Christmas after Halloween. And I know that the history of Thanksgiving isn’t the greatest and that there is a whole lot of pain behind that history for many people. But, now-a-days, Thanksgiving has turned into a holiday where people feel the NEED to GIVEΒ BACK.

Thanksgiving, for me, was always a time when my mom would take us to volunteer with her at an annual event called “Feast of Sharing”. Β The Feast of Sharing is the culmination of a year‑round commitment H‑E‑B (a supermarket based out of Texas) makes to fighting hunger. In addition to a holiday meal people can also enjoy music, arts and crafts, and kids activities‑even an appearance by Santa himself.

When people start forgetting the turkey, it makes me feel like people start forgetting that it’s the season of giving and I really hope that I am wrong about that.

Thanksgiving to me is a time to give back and to remember how amazing our lives are, especially here in the United States. Thanksmas celebration at work, Friendsgiving celebrations with my sorority sisters and friends, and spendingΒ Thanksgiving day with my family back home…these are all the reasons why I don’t want to jump ahead to Christmas just yet. ;)

Because of all this, I started my own November tradition where I watch as many THANKSGIVING movies that I can before December comes. There aren’t many compared to the amount of Christmas and holiday movies that there are out there, but I have had years to discover my favorite ones and wanted to share them with you!

Dutch (1991)

This movie is super cute!! It was like a more PG rated “Bad Santa”.

Tortilla Soup (2001)

This is not really a “Thanksgving movie” but there is so much food in this movie! You will want to go eat after watching it for sure!

The Thanksgiving Promise (1986)

Holiday Engagement (2011)

This movie is set during the Thanksgiving holiday even though all the marketing looks like it should be set during Christmas. I love that it is centered around Thanksgiving because there aren’t many movies like this that are.

An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving (2008)

Addams Family Values (1993)

Duh.

National Lampoon’s Thanksgiving Family Reunion (2003)

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973)

Need I saw more?

Free Birds (2013)

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

I always start watching this movie on Thanksgving Day and finish it the day after Thanksgiving so I can start to get into the Christmas mood!

What do you think of my list?!?!

Do you do anything special in November for Thanksgiving?
