Happy Tuesday! I am SUPER excited to do my post on Shreveport! It’s almost been a whole three weeks since I was there and I am already missing the FUN AND ADVENTUROUS air.

I also miss the FOOD. All the BALLS. All the BALLS. Boudin Balls that is. 😉

To Stay

Courtyard by Marriott Shreveport-Bossier City/Louisiana Boardwalk

100 Boardwalk Boulevard

Bossier City, Louisiana 71111

SUPER HIP AND HAPPENING! I loved this hotel so much! It is connected to the Shreveport-Bossier City/Louisiana Boardwalk which has shopping, restaurants, and a movie theater. I was able to go watch TWO movies while I was there because the movie prices were really good. Haha. But, the hotel is beautiful and the staff is amazing.

To Do

Gators & Friends Adventure Park

11441 US-80

Greenwood, LA 71033

THIS ZIP LINE IS EVERYTHING! You have the opportunity to zip line over GATORS. I am deathly scared of heights. I wasn’t when I was younger but I am now. The staff here was so hip and accommodating and they really worked with me to get over my fears. They LEGIT had me running off the ledge to the zip line towards the end. I would do it again there if I could every single day!

Chimp Haven

13600 Chimpanzee Place

Keithville, LA 71047

So, I may or may not have said this on the blog before, but when we were little my mom used to say we looked like monkeys. It always stuck with us and I ended up being OBSESSED with monkeys growing up. The opportunity to see real life chimps was amazing. The chimps here are all chimps that were all once used for research purposes and need a place to call home. In a way, you can say these chimps are all HEROES and I had the honor to spend a couple of hours among them.

Shreveport Aquarium

601 Clyde Fant Pkwy

Shreveport, LA 71101

THIS ONE TOUR GUIDE HERE. For the life of me, I can’t remember his name. But he was all that and a bag of chips as far as tour guides go. He knew his shit and made the whole aquarium experience feel like I was a little kid again. For being a smaller aquarium, they had so much to offer. If I am ever back in Shreveport, I will be FOR SURE visiting again.

To Eat

BREAKFAST AND DESSERT

Whisk Dessert Bar

724 Azalea Dr

Shreveport, LA 71106

IT’S NOT A BISCUIT, IT’S A WHISKCUIT! Whisk Dessert Bar is a chef-driven dessert emporium. They serve breakfast biscuits called “Whiskuits,” as well as from-scratch cinnamon rolls and more. I liked Whisk the most because they really care about being in their community and bringing gourmet desserts to the place where they are from. The plates and desserts might be fancy, but it has HOMEGROWN written all over it.

BRUNCH

Marilynn’s Place

4041 Fern Ave

Shreveport, LA 71105

THEY HAVE A TAP FOR CHAMPAGNE. Housed in a converted service station, Marilynn’s Place is a madhouse overseen by Chef “Boz” Baucum, a Shreveport native who recently returned to Shreveport following decades living and working in New Orleans. Baucum describes the Marilynn’s brunch experience as “drink ‘til you drown,” and it does get that way. But the food here can also be terrific, and often combines Cajun and Creole ingredients with a North Louisiana approach to comfort food. Let’s just say I ate and DRANK here before my flight and slept like a baby. Haha.

LUNCH

Herby K’s

1833 Pierre Ave

Shreveport, LA 71103

GIVE ME ALL THE OYSTERS! Shreveport’s oldest continually operated restaurant is also one of its most popular (and smallest!) seafood joints and bars. Herby-K’s, which has been run by the same family since 1936, is best known for their open-faced shrimp po’ boy variation known as the Shrimp Buster (pictured below). The restaurant has been profiled in Garden & Gun, featured on The History Channel’s American Pickers, and named “One of the Best Louisiana Restaurants Not in New Orleans” by Thrillist.com. I LOVED the oysters so much and wish I was eating there right now.

DINNER

Longwood General Store

3502 LA-169

Mooringsport, LA 71060

LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE STEAK NIGHT DOOOOOE. Located deep in rural Caddo Parish, Longwood General Store is as quirky an eatery as you will find anywhere in Louisiana. It is a steakhouse located inside of a convenience store. Want a beer? They’ll pull one from a six-pack in the cooler, which you’ll likely be seated next to. Prefer a cocktail? No problem, they’ll have one brought over from the casino next door. A charmingly rural dining experience. The steak was ON POINT and I had enough Michelob Ultra’s from the convenience store to last me a week. LOL.

Dranks

The Jump Off

3701 Greenwood Rd

Suite 300

Shreveport, Louisiana 71109

I’MA BUY YOU A DRAAAANK. My favorite were the “high-end” daiquiris with Hennessy and Crown. In Louisiana, it’s perfectly legal to purchase potent frozen cocktails without leaving the comfort of your automobile. Drive-through daiquiri joints are located all over the city. You can drop in to get a daiquiri, or two, or three, or more. 😉 They also have a liquor store and beer for all your drank needs.
