Salsa global sensation Marc Anthony brought his Legacy tour to the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX on November 9, 2018.
I have always loved salsa, ever since I can remember. When I was about 14 and my brother was 12, my mom decided to take us to salsa lessons at the local gym. We were the youngest students in the class by a long shot. But, looking back at my life so far, it is one of the most fond memories I have.
Salsa wouldn’t be salsa if it wasn’t for Marc Anthony. When I got the opportunity to cover his concert, I decided to go for it. I have heard mixed reviews from a lot of people about his concerts. Most have been positive, but I have also heard many negative reviews from close family and friends.
As I do with most concerts, I went in with little to no expectations. But, WOW. I mean, I have been impressed from performances before, but this man was UNREAL.
His band was top notch. I mean, like FOR REAL FOR REAL. The bongo player was legit. And that keyboard player DOE. The most exciting part was when Marc, himself, played the drums with his band.
The crowd favorites of the night were any of the songs he did before the 2010s. Even at 50, Marc Anthony still has an energy of a 20 year old and DOES NOT STOP. He give it his all…THE WHOLE TIME.
He screamed, “QUIEREN FIESTA?!?! DO YOU WANT TO PARTY?!?! DIJE, QUIEREN FIESTA?!?! I SAID, DO YOU WANT TO PARTY?!?! CHECK IT OUT BABI!”Β
The crowd responded with screams back and then started dancing as soon as the song began. Puerto Rican “Boricua” presence was heavy and he even dedicated a song to his country and his people. He is super proud of his background and heritage and does not shy away from it.
My favorite part of every concert I go to is looking out into the crowd to see their reaction. I almost cried from happiness because Marc Anthony really has an effect on his fans. All the Boricuas in the audience raised their flags, sang along, and danced when the song was dedicated to them. It is beautiful to see music have that much of an impact on a person and even more on a group of thousands.
The only downer was that people were on their phones most of the time. Advice to all my fellow concert-goers…put the phone down and enjoy the moment. :)
I will DEFINITELY be seeing Marc Anthony again really soon!
