TNL Reviews: Hot Luck 2018

Austin, TX Food

BRING ON THE MEATS! Hot Luck 2018 was all I imagined and more!

I don’t know when I started writing about food so much and so often. I honestly don’t even know how I started getting invited to these foodie heaven festivals. But, I am not complaining! I guess, deep down in my heart, I have always been a food blogger.

Hot Luck is a match made in heaven for me. It includes my two loves of food and music. Hot Luck Festival is a food and music festival from Aaron Franklin, James Moody, and Mike Thelin. Hot Luck is what happens at the fire—in the flames. It’s where the inspiration turns into food. And that food feeds the people, and the music, and the next round of crazy ideas that flicker to life.

Hot Luck is a lot like an ACL minus all the extra people that are just there for an Instagram selfie post. Haha. People that attend this weekend-long event really care about the food, the music, and what really brings us all together.

The one thing the festival lacked this year was diversity. In both the food and the attendees. I know the price is a little steep and that might be the deterrent from more people of color from attending. But, I also feel like many people just don’t feel like they would be welcome at an event like that.

I talked for a bit with an amazing creative known as Chorizo Funk and we both really hope that next year Hot Luck will try and reach out to get more people of color to want to attend their event.

I loved the way the whole weekend was still super chill even with all the people that were there. It was easy to get food and drinks. It really helped that all food and drinks were included in the ticket. There was no need to keep pulling out your money and cards while you are trying to enjoy yourself.

I am super happy and honored that I was invited as media to Hot Luck 2018 and I am excited to see how it evolves and expands in the future!
