I call my mom everyday. Sometimes we laugh. Sometimes we fight. Sometimes we bond. Sometimes we cry.
My mom is my best friend. I know that it seems so cliché, but it’s true. When I turned 21, my mom and I traveled to Miami to celebrate. When I turned 25, she took me to Vegas for my first time there. And, if you know my mom in person, you know she KNOWS how to party.
But, my mom is sooooo much more than that. She truly is my number one role model…the true definition of a #GirlBoss. She is from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 13. She was able to overcome adversity and graduate college despite English being her second language. She went on to become the first woman and first Latina President/CEO of Border Federal Credit Union in Del Rio, TX. This past April, she was awarded the Cornerstone Credit Union League Professional of the Year Award. I took some days ff from work so I could make it to the awards ceremony. My mom has always been there for me, so I wanted to be there for her. I am sooooo fortunate to have my as a mentor, friend, and mom! She is such an inspiration to me. She inspires me and motivates me to be better and greater. Her and my dad came to the United States to give my siblings and I a better life. And I am sooooo proud of my mom and so proud to be her daughter.
My mom is also one of the funniest people I know. She makes everyone around her laugh so much! She is also probably the most positive person I know. When I was in college, she used to send me funny chain emails with jokes in Spanish when I was having a bad day or a bad week. Now she likes to send my siblings and I funny (sometimes super weird haha) videos of her lip syncing or just being plain silly. She doesn’t know it, but it really brightens my day when she does that.
Mother’s Day means so much to me because it’s a way to remember the many ways my mom has helped me and shaped me. More than that, I hope to remind my mom everyday of how blessed and grateful I am to have her in my life.
